Farewell to Sir Sherman and to Serbian Trust

“I believe that he will be primarily remembered as the man who invented
Thatcherism and who explained Thatcherism to Margaret Thatcher herself,” - Srdja Trifkovic, speaking about Sir Alfred Sherman.
Sense of Justice
Excerpt from Slobodanka Boba Borojevic's interview with Serge Trifkovic about late Sir Alfred Sherman:
Trifkovic: I spoke to Sir Alfred the last time in Belgrade this year. On my question what had motivated him to be supportive of Serbs he replied: “Events of today offend my sense of justice and that is why I do what I can.”
Borojevic: What was Sir Alfred’s score in the fight for the Serbian justice?
Trifkovic: There were several elements to his position. One is that the Western world is facing the global threat of Islam and that the position of the West vis-à-vis the Serbs in the Balkan conflict was self-defeating and detrimental to the global position of the West, which was effectively undermining people who should be their natural allies in the global clash of civilizations, which we are facing.
Secondly, as a student of history and someone well acquainted with Europe’s recent past, Sir Alfred was acutely aware of the manner in which during WWII the West, and in particular Great Britain, tilted the balance in the Serbian civil war in favor of Tito and against General Mihailovic, and he greatly feared that something broadly similar was taking place in 1990s.
Thirdly, during his visits to Yugoslavia as a young Communist and then as a correspondent for the Observer in the early 1950s, he also developed a natural and cultural affinity with the Serbs, a liking for them as individuals and an abiding respect for their history that have stayed with him until the end of his life. So, there was a geopolitical, a moral, an aesthetic and a personal aspect to his position in the Balkan conflict.
Sir Alfred Sherman passed away on Saturday August 26, 2006 at the age of 87. Dr. Srdja Trifkovic wrote a tribute to Sir Sherman and shared his memories about this brilliant man in an interview with Boba Borojevic (go to CKCU folder and click on ME04Sep06, Trifkovic on late Alfred Sherman file), also available on Serbianna.com.
Farewell to Serbian Trust
UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari’s outrageous attempt to assign collective guilt to Serbian nation has seriously undermined the remaining trust Serbs had in the international community. Following another UN mediator’s equally racist statements and sentiments Albert Rohan has shared with Serbian public, Ahtisaari’s barefaced bias has shattered the illusion of UN representative’s alleged impartiality and neutrality.
This is the main subject of Boba Borojevic’s conversation with Dr. Srdja Trifkovic, the foreign affairs editor of Chronicles Magazine and director of The Rockford Institute’s Center for International Affairs and Scott Taylor, author, a freelance war reporter and publisher of the Military Magazine Esprit de Corps.
