Ahtisaari to Stick to U.N. Charter

Ahtisaari Should Read the U.N. Charter Before Proposing Anything
Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica assessed on Wednesday that the draft solution for Kosovo-Metohija presented by (UN special envoy) Martti Ahtisaari will be doomed to failure if it is not in keeping with the UN Charter and in case that it violates the principle of Serbia’s territorial integrity.
“The Serbian government has not received Ahtissari’s paper for the resolution of Kosovo-Metohija’s status, nor have we had an opportunity to discuss it with Ahtisaari,” Kostunica said.
He qualified as worrying the fact that up to now, Ahtisaari had held only one meeting with the Serbian and ethnic Albanian side, and that he now had a paper which had never been discussed.
Over the past year, Ahtisaari has completely failed to organize serious talks, the Serbian Prime Minister pointed out.
“Be what it may, one thing is certain - if Ahtisaari’s paper is not in keeping with the UN Charter and if it violates the principle of Serbia’s territorial integrity, this paper is doomed to failure, since the Security Council will never allow a violation of the UN Charter and let that 15 percent of the territory be snatched away from Serbia,” Kostunica warned.
“I believe that Ahtisaari read the UN Charter before he wrote that paper, and that he knows that three and a half million of Serbian citizens voted for the constitution, which literally represents a copy of the (corresponding) clause of the UN Charter,” Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said.
