Daniel Fried Not In Charge of Defining Serbia’s Interests
Apparently entirely unaware of breaking their own records in arrogance and cynicism, U.S. State Department’s Daniel Fried, being most concerned with rounding off Clinton’s legacy and fulfilling Clinton-Albright-Holbrooke promises given to the Albanian separatists in Serbian Kosovo province prior to the 1999 U.S.-led NATO aggression on Serbia, insists that “an independent Kosovo is in Serbia’s best interest.”
Serbian Minister Aleksandar Popovic immediately responded, saying it is high time for Fried to stop attempting to define Serbia’s interests, if he really wants to keep good relations between Serbia and U.S., as he claims.
As a U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Fried ought to be aware that Serbia is a sovereign state which defines its own national and state interests independently, said Minister Popovic.
Unilateral Moves Would Annul Resolution 1244, Giving Serbia More Room to Respond
Serbia’s state secretary in the Kosovo-Metohija Ministry Dusan Prorokovic said Serbia will not idly sit by, but will respond to the possible unilateral declaration of independence.
In case Albanian separatists in Kosovo province proclaim independence and some states recognize it, then the Resolution 1244 will be practically scrapped. And if that UN Security Council resolution gets annulled with the unilateral moves, then we are legally and formally back in the June of 1999, before the Kumanovo agreement was signed. Serbian government would then have the right to react the same way it would respond to any other secessionist movement on the territory of Serbia, said Minister Prorokovic.
Full Autonomy — All Albanian Minority Can Ever Get
Minister Zoran Loncar told Tanjug that the American government will have to get used to the painful fact that it is not United States, but the UN Security Council that is in charge of solving the internal issues of relations between the nations living in Kosovo-Metohija.
“Being that the American administration has special relations with Albanians, it would be very good if they were to use their influence to suggest to Albanians they should forget the idea of making a second state for themselves on the territory of Serbia,” said Loncar, adding that “the full autonomy is the maximum Albanian minority can ever get in Kosovo-Metohija province.”

That is more like it, there are encouraging noises coming out of Belgrade for a change. If the US disregards the UN resolution then Serbia has all the right to disregard any of the terrorist's demands and return Kosovo and Metohija to the rightful administration in Belgrade. All the Albanians who cannot accept that can freely leave the Serbian province never to return. They don't deserve even the full autonomy but that might be the highest price Serbia is prepared to pay to resolve the problem.

Exactly - enough already!
I'd give them nothing and would refuse to negotiate with terrorists. U.S. does it all the time, why do we have to talk with the cutthroat Ceku?! But that's OK for now. If nothing else, Serbs are extraordinarily patient.

Full autonomy for K-Albanians is very gracious from Serbia seeing how out of 1.800.000 people only 400.000 are legal citizens of Serbia. If Serbia grants full autonomy to Kosovo that would mean the rest of illegal immigrants (around 1.400.000) will automatically be granted amnesty making them legal citizens of Serbia. If Serbia's military isn't allowed to return to Kosovo borders, including those with Albania, autonomy would be pointless. Better to have an imposed solution (meaning Kosovo independence) which would also mean in a few years time Serbia's military intervention than to be stuck with 1.400.000 illegal immigrants and thousands coming in each month.

Attempt at an imposed solution would probably be a blessing in disguise for Serbia since it would create an impasse and bring the whole scenario to the start of the year 1999. Under such circumstances Serbia could come out better off than agreeing to full autonomy. True, that would result in possible military operations and more bloodshed but then, isn't that how Serbs recaptured all of their lost territories?

I agree, guys. We would actually be in a better position if the solution was imposed - however contradictory that may sound.

The insufferable arrogance of US and "world community" officials is unbelievable. These toadies (like Fried/Burns) actually believe they rule the world.
I would strongly urge Serbia to declare ALL illegals within Kosovo to be enemy combatants out of uniform (i.e., espionage agents) subject to trial by military tribunal and, if convicted, death by firing squad. Then begin the roundup and processing of the most notorious offenders in Kosovo and southern Serbia. I believe that would give great impetus to the departure of illegals by thr 10's of thousands.

I agree completely.
It is clear that the most ideal position would be a Kosovo as well as Serbia in general without Albanians...or at least a lot. But however that is not realistic or the case now.
I can see a problem even if Albanians do accept autonomy, drugs and crime will spread further into Serbia and Albanians following it. I think the best outcome (a realistic one) would be if Albanians declare independence (which would be illegal) after Russian veto (or even before a vote) that way yes resolution 1244 will be gone...but so will the authority in Kosovo (UN/NATO) It would be hilarious if no one even recognized them.
On the other hand "Supervised Independence" which is greatly sought after by the US/EU would be one of the worst outcomes for Serbia.
and as Dusan Prorokovic said -
"then we are legally and formally back in the June of 1999, before the Kumanovo agreement was signed. Serbian government would then have the right to react the same way it would respond to any other secessionist movement on the territory of Serbia"
Can anyone else spot the hints here?
Regards :)
