Serbia’s Golden Team, U20 European Basketball Championship 2007 Winners.
Serbia, Europe’s 2007 Basketball Champions
— Guys
Team of Serbian 20-year-olds won the European Basketball Championship in Italy yesterday, defending their U20 European Championship Men title from the last summer in Izmir, Turkey, when they were still playing under the national flag of Serbia and Montenegro.
These guys will now move on to the seniors, after being dubbed “Serbia’s Golden Team,” since they also captured the gold in 2003 U16, 2005 U18 and 2006 U20 championships.
The captain of the Serbian team Milos Teodosic was awarded the title of the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). Teodosic’s overwhelmed coach Vlada Vukoicic thought that’s about all one needs to know about the super-talented young player: “What can you say about him... He’s the MVP!”
Greece coach Manos Manousselis appeared a bit more composed: “He controls the game very, very well. He knows how to put everyone in their spot. But he also keeps his cool. He doesn’t let his temper get out of control,” said Manousselis of Teodosic.

...And Girls
The sparkly brand new trophy comes only a week after Serbian girls won the European Basketball Championship July 8, in Novi Sad, Serbia. The MVP title of that tournament was also given to a Serbian representative, Jelena Milovanovic.
...And Beyond Sports
On the same day (July 8), Serbia’s Red Cross team won the international first aid competition in Limerick, Ireland.
According to the media “for the second year in a row, Serbia’s life savers have emerged at the Europe’s top, as the First Aid Convention in Europe (FACE) gathered National Societies of Red Cross and Red Crescent teams from 26 European countries. Serbia’s squad was comprised of young volunteers age 20-24 trained in the Belgrade Red Cross office.”
For a small country some seem to think doesn’t really belong in Europe, it’s quite a bit of European Gold won in a single-week span.
