Russian Senate: No Breakthrough in Kosovo Negotiations Due to West’s Pro-Independence Bias

There has been no progress in negotiations regarding the future status of the Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija because of the biased stance of the West, assessed the President of the Committee for International Relations in Russian Senate, Michael Margelov.

“The fact that Kosovo Albanian leaders are prepared to declare the unilateral independence is something everyone ignores,” said Margelov, adding that the reason for the failure of three-day talks that ended today is “the position of Pristina, and not that of Belgrade.”

Senator Margelov reminded that Serbian officials have went over and beyond any arrangement that exists in today’s world in trying to reach a compromise solution, practically giving everything to the Albanian minority in their country, while merely preserving the state borders.

“It is the position of Pristina that has to be subjected to corrections, and not the position of Belgrade, and that is the assessment that should be presented to the UN Secretary General within a report of the mediating troika,” Margelov said.

He warned that the imposed severing of the southern Serbian province is “a ticking time bomb under the principle of the inviolability of the borders.”

If the Serbian province’s independence gets unilaterally declared, “the similar scenarios ought to be expected in Kurdistan, Palestine, North Ossetia, Transdniestra, North Ireland, Basque Country and in a number of other places,” the Russian senator said.

Russian Duma Foreign Affairs Committee: Only One Side is Negotiating

Only one side is negotiating in the talks on the future status of Kosovo and Metohija, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Duma and a ranking official of the Unity Party of Russia Konstantin Kosachov assessed on Tuesday.

According to him, it all boils down to Serbs constantly offering new models, showing the kind of flexibility which is without precedent, and offering the most one country can offer — everything but independence, while the Albanian separatists are simply ignoring all of it.

Qualifying the talks as “so-called negotiations,” Kosachov said that, in reality, the Kosovo Albanian separatists had not been taking part in them for some time now, but have limited their participation to demanding that their conditions be fulfilled and setting their own deadlines, without paying any attention to what other participants in the process were doing.

In spite of all the constructiveness of such an approach by the Serbs, the Euro-Atlantic patrons of Pristina hold that it is Belgrade that should be further pressured and keep threatening with an inevitable proclamation of Kosovo’s independence, the Russian parliamentarian underlined in the article for the Russian daily Izvestia.

Right now the West appears to be ignoring Kosovo, hoping that somehow it'll settle itself peacefully. It won't happen- the greedy Koranists will shoot for what they want, triggering both a defensive reaction from the Serbs (and rightfully so) and the sympathy of the West (ridiculously so). Western "leaders" really need to read the Koran-yes it's poorly written and boring at times but it is also hair raising and quite informative as to what motivates its followers. We'd all be a lot better off if they did read it and learn from it.

You have a point as far the Mohammedan faith followers are concerned and their ultimate goals. As for the West ignoring Kosovo nothing could be farther from the truth. Not only that the West is not ignoring Kosovo and Metohija but they are actively involved in raising the tension levels simply because it suits their plans. As far as the Western strategists are concerned the whole process is actually going according to their plan and they are rubbing their palms in excitement. It's now or never, this kind of opportunity does not present itself twice and the chance should not be wasted, or at least that's how they see it.

There are surprises in store for all, including the hubris burdened West.

I agree with you Bozidar as Zbigniew Brzezinski stated in his book The Grand Chessboard
"In reality creating inextricable situations is not a mistake but a tactic. The US created and unworkable, unviable state in Bosnia, which is the perfect excuse for a durable protectorate
If you look at US actions from the correct perspective you see that it's actions are in no way a mistake or misunderstanding it has followed a highly succesful strategy of divide and conquer not only in Yugoslavia but in Iraq and other hot spots. That is why the criminal Clinton administration
to this day looks at Bosnia as a great success. These people are amazingly evil if you know anything about history you can see neoimperialism for what it is rather than terms like vassels and protectorates they have various economic treaties and partnerships for peace.History is one long story of the few trying to rule the many and freedom and democracy are the exceptions rather than the norms.Americans do not want to face the truth that their country is sliding into fascism
It is not by coincidence that the US followed the same map as Hitler when dismembering Yugoslavia.
(By the way anyone that wants to understand US behavior please read the grand chessborad the arrogance with which Brzezinski writes is amazing).
