Hollywood Support for Serbia Grows

Hollywood Support for Serbia Grows
Carrying the information from Frankfurt daily News, RTS reported on Sunday that, after two among the most popular Hollywood stars, George Clooney and Sharon Stone, announced they will organize a protest against severing province of Kosovo and Metohija from the rest of Serbia, they were joined by Richard Gere and the all-time favorite James Bond — Sir Sean Connery.
“In case Serbian officials and Russia do not succeed in preserving Kosovo, the celebrated Hollywood stars might. The world's most famous stars will, most probably already next month, stand in defense of the southern Serbian province in Hollywood, the heart of international movie industry: Sharon Stone, George Clooney, and also Richard Gere and Sir Sean Connery,” the Frankfurt daily News say.

“Due to the presidential elections in Serbia, all diplomatic activities related to resolving the final status of Kosovo-Metohija have been halted, including the intention of the Western states to recognize the unilaterally declared independence. Once this issue gets to the forefront once again, which is expected to happen in February, the world-famous stars are determined to organize a protest in Hollywood, to which they will invite all the just-minded people from around the globe, to stand up in defense of Kosovo,” German daily reports.
Clooney: I Can't Hear the Serbian Side
The daily also notes that George Clooney, in an earlier interview, said that, even though he avidly follows all the world's events, he is given no opportunity to hear the Serbian side too, when it comes to solving the issue of Serbian province's status.
“Serbian lobby is very weak in United States and all one can hear or read comes from [pro-independence] Albanian lobby and lobbyists. I can't hear the other side,” said Clooney.

He revealed that Sharon Stone, his long-time friend, already spoke to many influential people in the U.S., in order to prevent the forced severing of a part of Serbia.
Richard Gere: Something's Fishy About Kosovo
Among the first, she talked to Richard Gere who was campaigning for the independence of Tibet, but was not favorably disposed towards the Serbian side. Frankfurt News confirms that Gere will join the protest against Kosovo-Metohija amputation after all, because he became extremely suspicious of the intentions of Western powers, due to their overwhelming pressure and stubborn insistence to sever the province from the rest of Serbia.
“There must be something [else] about Kosovo, since they are so bent on seizing it,” Gere said.
Sir Sean Connery: Albanians in Serbian Province Can't Have More Rights Than Scotsmen

The most popular James Bond of all times, Sir Sean Connery, reacted similarly. To him, the situation surrounding Serbian province can also be viewed from the perspective of his native Scotland.
“During its history, Scotland has had far more grounds to be granted independence, but it was not allowed to secede. What could possibly be the difference between my homeland and Kosovo, to create such a precedent now?!”, asked the celebrated actor.
Tom Hanks, Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro and Johnny Depp to Join Protests Against Dismembering Serbia
Meanwhile, PressOnline reported on Monday that more famous American movie stars will join the protests against dismemberment of Serbia.
“In addition to Hollywood stars George Clooney and Sharon Stone, who have already announced they will organize a protest against the American recognition of the unilateral declaration of Kosovo-Metohija independence, Serbia is also supported by Tom Hanks, Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro and Johnny Depp.
“Serbian position regarding Kosovo-Metohija issue will receive support by a number of other famous Americans. This is of the exceptional, vital importance for the preservation of Kosovo and Metohija. The voice of George Clooney or Tom Hanks in United States is heard much farther and better, and it gets far more regard than the voice of most politicians. When an ordinary American sees that some of the best and most popular Hollywood actors support the Serbian cause, he will start to view the whole problem differently,” the well-regarded Washington political analyst of Serbian descent Obrad Kesic said.

According to him, it is also important that this is the election year in United States.
“Both the republicans and democrats pay a lot of attention to the public opinion. If this campaign shows results and sufficient number of Americans side with Serbs, the correction of American policy, which is now entirely aligned with Albanian separatists’ interests, is more than likely,” Kesic explained.
Tom Hanks, a Brother in Christ
Reportedly, Tom Hanks is among the fiercest opponents of severing of southern Serbian province. The famous star who is a direct descendant of Nancy Hanks, mother of the American president Abraham Lincoln, was recently baptized in the Eastern Orthodox Church, after marrying the actress Rita Wilson, who is of Greek decent.
Robert De Niro Knows Serbs Better Than Most Americans
The fact one of the Hollywood legends—Robert De Niro—has also joined the campaign in defense of southern Serbian province of Kosovo-Metohija hasn’t surprised the well-informed, especially after the celebrated master-actor publicly supported Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic: back when De Niro was an unknown American student, he traveled to Serbia and spent, according to his own words, memorable days among the Serbian farmers in a small village in Sumadija.
He named his daughter Drina, after his favorite novel “Bridge on Drina River” by the Serbian writer and Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andric. De Niro is known for his high regard for Serbian people, also reflected in his choice of staff mostly comprised of Serbs — from the nanny and gardeners, to horse-trainers and private security guards.

Hopefully this can all help in reserving what it rightfully ours.

One may wonder what Hollywood has to do with the West's policy in the Balkans. But non-Americans should keep in mind that anything related to actors' activities has a considerable impact with the US public, like movies based on historic events are more popular than history books. So, the actors' initiative probably has more effect than an article in the NYT.
Though it's a bleeding shame that Serb-related positive events are impopular (boycotted) with the int'l press establishment.
Happy smiles - JJ

I believe that Johnny Depps support on the issue could be do to his friendship with Kusturica. Depp is a fan of Kusturica and Kusturica is a fan of his. Depp also had the leading role in Kusturica's only American film, Arizona Dream.
Also. Depp visited Beograd in 1992 as the video from this Partibrejkers concert from 92 shows:

How did all this come about? It seems like all this support came out of nowhere.... Are the Serbs just now organizing? What is making all these stars just NOW wake up?

It's realy obvious what sir Sean Connery should say. What right do Albanians have to take a part of other people homeland?

Bravo Darling Svetlana for staying on top of this! It is a great story, and once again, I've happily followed in your footsteps in tracking it.
And you are right, the world listens when Hollywood speaks.
The one on the list that really surprised me was Richard Gere. Could it have been the time he spent in Bosnia filming "The Hunting Party" and was scared out of the place? He wouldn't comment on who or what "scared" him, but we can only guess!

I already had commented that I was sure mr Robert De Niro will help to Serbia. I had no doubt! I could say the same for Johnny Depp as he had acted in Serbian director's Emir Kusturica movie, Arizona Dream... and I also expect the actress from that movie to join too. People... BIG THANK FROM SERBIA!!!!!!!!!!! Jack Nickolson... I am sure You will help Serbia too... I wanna read Your name in the list... :-)

By the way, I found a reference that might explain Richard Gere's turn-around on Kosovo:
"UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros Ghali called the Bosnian Civil War a "rich man's war". There were a dozen other areas around the globe much worse than Bosnia, such as Rwanda or Sudan. Kosovo, too, would be remarkable as revealing the affluence and comfortable lifestyles of the "victims". The actor Richard Gere reported as an eyewitness how many of the Albanian refugees all carried expensive cellular telephones in their suit pockets. Kosovars lived in three-story houses, drove expensive foreign automobiles, and were well-supplied with arms and brand new military uniforms."
No wonder he thought that something was "fishy about Kosovo"!

Richard Gere is the biggest shock and the only fly in this ointment. I don't trust him. He has been an anti-Serb since at least 1999. Before listening to him, I would demand an apology to all the Serbs in the world. His behavior has been deplorable. I remember him being interviewed on the news at the time of the Kosovo bombing about those "bad" Serbs driving out Kosovo Albanians -- he went to Macedonia to watch and to come back to American newsbroadcasts and play the "humanitarian." I haven't been able to watch one of his films since and I won't forgive Richard Gere unless he apologizes and admits he was wrong. He should be taken to task over these issues and pressed to admit what he has done. Maybe he's just a cretin who jumps on the next bandwagon every time, and he doesn't want to miss this one. But HOORAY!! for all the others who are waking up and finally getting the word out.

And, as always, your research, my dear Melana, completes the picture - beautifully done (I especially like the picture of Micheal Douglas with Carl Malden and his dad, Kirk :-))
I agree that the story is huge and I'm deeply moved by these people I never thought would get involved. From what I learned, Sharon Stone started the whole thing. I read her interview from few months ago, given to a Serbian weekly, where she talked about her childhood friends and revealed that their father, a Kosovo Serb, saved Stone's father's (an Irish immigrant) life at some point. He also showed her the photos of the church he was baptized in, in Kosovo-Metohija, that is now razed to the ground by the raging Albanian Muslim hordes - one of 155 Serbian churches and monasteries, most from 13th and 14th century, wiped off the face of the earth since NATO marched in and handed the rule to Albanian Muslim criminals and cutthroats. The two families were hard-working and poor, but very loving and happy to share the little that they had.
In that interview, Sharon Stone said that they are waiting for the latest round of sham-negotiations to end, to organize a protest. She is an exceptional woman and a wonderful friend.
There was also a detailed account of Robert De Niro's time in Serbian village, while he was still penniless and anonymous. He asked to be taken to that same village when he visited Serbia recently. And it is true that Johnny Depp and Nemanja Kusturica are very good friends since Arizona Dream.
So, several of the very influential, universally popular and loved people have known much more about the Serbs and Serbia than the mainstream media would allow, being overwhelmingly polluted by the KLA lobbyists and their Western scribes, for a very long time. It took Stone's Irish resolve and push to get them together.
Now that George Clooney and others have gotten involved, I see some collective heads are exploding in certain corners of the world - good for them. Or, do I need to say Danke Deutschland?
O, brother! that always cracks me up... :-)))

I always loved all these actors. It more than warms my heart to know that we the Serbs can have friends. Do not forget world war 1 and world war 2. Who was America's ally? the Serbs in all wars. In world war 2 the Cetnik Serbs saved over 600 American Pilots... remember Draza Mihajlovic. Now all of the sudden the Serbian people were betrayed. I would love to see a movie in Hollywood... im thinking, "The Battle of Kosovo". Save Kosovo!

Finally someone has decided that our side should be listened too. We are not those who want war, we do not want any more blood spilled for land, we want that world hears what we have to say, and give us back the first Serbian state in Slav history, on Kosovo are ours roots, on Kosovo are graves of ours ancestors, there are our castles, our towns, villages. Some 2 000 000 Serbs, including my family where, with guns moved by Albanians away from our homes. And now, when we are not there, in 15 years time, they have moved half of Albania there and claim that it is their home. Well, if someone would read Serbian history, he would see how much the world is wrong when they want to take our land. Do not judge a nation by one dictator, judge the nation by the people who live in it. Serbia is a friendly nation, so who can, come and see it. God bless you all, live in peace and prosperity

Robert DeNiro 'crashed' a Serbian wedding in Mingo Junction, Ohio years ago during the filming of Deer Hunter in the 70s. They had heard that there was a wedding and came dressed with a gift of money and had a great time dancing the kolos & drinking. The movie had an Russian Orthodox wedding scene in it. True story as the bride is a friend of mine.
Kosovo is Serbia!
Thank you Hollywood

As a Greek, I have full understanding for our serbian friends. We know very well what they have suffered from the "democratic West"!
There is not much to do, to cover the crimes against them. But, even at this late stage, the voices of some actors are welcomed.
The article and the comments are just restoring the truth! I wish the Serbs to keep on their resistance against this dirty war. History will not be written by the "winners" for ever.
Serbs have been through much more difficult times and they will survive again!
Kisses from Athens! Christos

As a Serbian this subject is to close to my heart and all I can say "well done". Shame that more people are not aware of the Kosovo situation, so one is able to hear only Albanian side of the story. The truth is that Kosovo is part of Serbia, as much as Texas is part of the USA, and with the God's will and the little help of my friends it will remain part of Serbia.
Long live Serbia, and thank you all for support.

I am overwhelmed and overjoyed at the support these leading American actors are giving to the plight of keeping Kosovo as Serbian.
As Serbs we have unfortunately been the brunt of constant one sided politics, clearly driven by countries who are not to protect anyone other than their own economic interests.
Having such top actors as our spokes people will have a much more effective way of raising awareness about what is actually happening than politicians who want to serve their own interests.
I'm in England and would give anything to go over to the US for the demonstration to give these actors and indeed humanitarians my support.

it is encouraging to finally see that some people are beginning to speak out, that awakening is happening, no matter how many scalar waves we are exposed to.
People need to remember that, what goes around comes around, so if we do not stand in support of truth and humanity -- what has been done to a victim nation will be experienced by people of aggressor nation(s). It is a cosmic karma, after all. If you allow your government to take the freedoms of people in other nation(s) – then soon your freedoms will be gone as well.
If you allow your government to steal the Kosovo, something else that is dear to you will be taken away from you. If you bomb innocent people to bits, your own kids would see nothing wrong with shooting their schoolmates.
As a Serb I am glad to at least see that some people are beginning to wake up and to speak out, to understand that there is agenda behind demonizing and prosecuting Serbs, lot larger than they can even imagine, and what is encouraging is that people are able to pick up this on internal levels, contrary to what propaganda machine is peddling.
If only people of the world knew how they have been manipulated for centuries and how they still are manipulated by those same powers to be that start all wars and create misery. Yes, if they knew -- the world would become a lot better place for all of us, almost overnight.
I knew that the day when truth is going to surface is coming, where powers to be will be unable to keep people in ignorance. I know that that day is near, very near.
I mean, even Mr. “let’s bomb Serbs to stone age” Richard Gear is picking up that there is something rotten with Western Kosovo Politics, and rotten it is because the agenda is global, lot larger than what it appears to be.
Empires have broke their own backs on Balkans, many times before, and this time will be no different.
I would like to thank all of those people who use their own brains and who have put the effort to spread the truth.
I thank you all and please remember words of Pastor Martin Niemöller
---
First they came for the Socialists, and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me, and there was no one left
to speak up for me.
