Cyprus Not the Only EU Member Determined Never to Recognize Seized Kosovo

Cyprus is not alone in the EU regarding its determination not to recognize unilateral proclamation of independence of the southern Serbian province of Kosovo, Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis said on Monday.

“Cyprus has repeatedly stated that it will never recognize a unilateral proclamation of the independence of Serbia's southern Kosovo and Metohija province that is secured outside the frameworks of the United Nations, primarily if this is done bypassing the UN Security Council,” the Cypriot foreign minister said.

“This stand has been accepted by the partners of Cyprus and the European Union (EU). Cyprus is not alone and there are other countries that will not recognize a unilaterally proclaimed independence,” Kozakou-Marcoullis said.

Spain Firmly Against Imposed Dismemberment of Serbia

Spanish Government today repeated that it is against unilateral proclamations of independence, and it called for unity in the EU regarding the Kosovo-Metohija issue.

“The Spanish Government does not appreciate any unilateral proclamations of independence,” stated Defense Minister Jose Antonio Alonso, assessing that the efforts aimed to ensure peace and stability cannot be rejected.

Spain, which is facing secessionist threats in Basque and Catalonia, has announced earlier that it will not recognize the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo Albanian separatists, for the sake of preserving peace and stability in the Balkans within the bounds of the international law.

News agencies remind that along with Spain and Cyprus, among the EU countries also opposing the independence of Kosovo province are Greece, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Romania.

Call to Official Warsaw: Dismemberment of Serbia and Imposed EU Mission Amount to Occupation

Polish opposition party League of Polish Families called on official Warsaw to pull out of designs for dismemberment of Serbia, said the party's leader and MEP Sylwester Chruszcz.

Chruszcz said that his party had adopted a declaration in which it expressed deep concern over the Polish Foreign Ministry's acceptance of the independence of Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija.

The League of Polish Families stressed that the planned EU mission in southern Serbian province "is illegitimate from the legal and formal standpoint."

"It is an apparent direct interference in the territorial integrity of an independent state, which is unheard of in Europe's recent history," the Polish party pointed out, reminding that Poland too lived through occupation in the past.

The declaration cautioned that Kosovo already had a significant problem with drug trafficking and rampant criminality and that Europe was "irrationally passive at the destruction of an Orthodox culture and civilization."
