Tomislav Nikolic: Brutal, Savage Action by UNMIK, NATO

Serbian Radical Party (SRS) Deputy President Tomislav Nikolic most strongly condemned yesterday's attack on judicial workers and other Serbs by UNMIK and KFOR (NATO) in northern Kosovska Mitrovica, stressing that they carried out a brutal and savage action against Serbs.

In a statement for reporters, the leader of the strongest political party in Serbia said this reminded him of the actions that Hitler's occupation regime conducted against the Serbian citizens in Kragujevac, Kraljevo, and other places during the Second World War.

"The women and men in Kosovska Mitrovica are guilty only of being Serbs and for wanting to return to their places of work," Nikolic said.

UNMIK has decided to withdraw its civilian staff from northern part of Kosovo province, "which means that they remain a pure force of occupation in Kosovo and Metohija," Nikolic pointed out.

Serbia Must Not Remain Silent

"I ask the representatives of the regime in Serbia, in particular the president of the republic, to ask their friends who are deciding what life will be like in Kosovo and Metohija these days, to cool the passions, to stop the vandalism and murdering and punishing of the citizens in Kosovo and Metohija who are Serbs," Nikolic said.

"We must not and cannot look on peacefully as they murder our citizens and seize our territory," he said.

"I demand an urgent reaction and public appearances by the head of state and the president of the republic - Serbia must know what comes next," Nikolic said, asking that the United Nations "condemn NATO's behaviour in Kosovo and Metohija."

"The developments in Kosovo and Metohija are beginning to slip out of control, innocent people are suffering, and Serbia must not remain silent for much longer in the face of challenges that an ethnically pure state is to be created in its territory according to the will and dictate of NATO," Nikolic said.

Protests Over Illegal Intervention by UNMIK and NATO in Kosovska Mitrovica Court

The Serbian Association of Public Prosecutors and Deputy Public Prosecutors on Tuesday condemned Monday's arrests of judicial workers in Kosovska Mitrovica, stressing that a democratic society and the rule of law cannot be established in this manner.

"Actions like this run contrary to the rule of law, the rule of law that should be the objective of UNMIK and KFOR in Kosovo and Metohija province," the prosecutors said.

Serbian Lawyers' Association on Tuesday expressed their deep disappointment and protest against the blatant ignoring and violation of the human rights to work, freedom of movement and expression of convictions, protected by international rights, on the occasion of yesterday's illegal intervention by the international police in the judicial institution in Kosovska Mitrovica.

"There is no justification, nor is it in keeping with international law to resort to force in order to resolve conflicts and justified protests by persons whose elementary human rights are illegally violated," the Association statement said.
