Professor Markovic: Yellow Coalition, a Death Sentence to Both SPS and Serbia
In the Monday interview to Belgrade daily Kurir, Serbia's leading philosopher, Academician Mihajlo Markovic, who is also one of the founders of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), warned that SPS leader Dacic joining the coalition gathered around Tadic's Yellows would be a death blow to both the SPS and to Serbia. He is convinced that, apart from the continued dismemberment of the state, the economic stagnation would follow, along with getting into deeper debts, growing unemployment and a deepening gap between the wealthy minority and impoverished majority. In that case, according to Professor Markovic, the SPS would be wiped off the political scene entirely.
"Already this year there is a shortage of the money received from privatization in the state budget. How shall we fill the budget in the future, when the plunder and the wholesale of everything this society has created in the past five decades soon comes to its end? Apart from that, the coalition agreement with [Tadic's] DS would be the end of SPS," Dr Markovic told Kurir.
Trampling Over Morality and Honor for a Pile of Euros
Q: Would the Socialist Party in the alliance with Radicals and the 'populist' bloc [Kostunica's DSS with NS party] quickly "drown" in the Serbian Radical Party?
MM: Just like [Kostunica's] DSS has not "drowned" in earlier coalitions with DS, the SPS would not "drown" in the radical-populist coalition either. To the contrary, if the SPS does not join that coalition, it will be deserted by most of its members, who will move to join the other parties, first and foremost the Serbian Radical Party, or to form their own political parties.
Q: Why do you think that the SPS leadership would find itself in a minority within the party's main board if they form the government with Tadic's coalition?
MM: I know many people in the SPS leadership and I'm following the events. The situation is getting worse and it is already today uncertain how would the main board react in case the heads decide, despite everything, to propose forming the government with DS. The heads are still wavering, due to an overwhelming responsibility and because it is not easy to trample over morality and honor for the pile of euros.
JS Leader Palma Not in Position to Set Agenda
Q: Would the heads of the SPS be more threatened by the condemnation on behalf of the municipal boards, or by raising the issue of their removal from the party?
MM: In such scenario [joining the Yellows' coalition], the revolt of the numerous municipal boards is inevitable, first of all the Belgrade one [where SPS has signed the coalition deal with Radicals and Kostunica's Democrats] which, according to the statute, cannot be replaced by the executive board. Sooner or later, the corrupt functionaries would be removed and disgraced.
Q: Can the Socialists continue the talks with SRS and DSS-NS, in spite the stand expressed by Dragan Markovic Palma [JS party, in coalition with SPS] that they are over?
MM: Dragan Markovic Palma is free to choose -- he will either go along with the majority within the coalition [around the SPS], or he will step out and allow Dacic to place his men at Palma's three MP posts.
... As Devastating as Fascism Implemented by the Solid Experts
Q: In case Ivica Dacic moves over to the Yellows, would that kind of government have certain qualities as well?
MM: SPS is not lacking the quality experts, so they could do some good in the government formed around the DS. However, this is the case of "instrumentalized reality", which boils down to finding the good, rational means for the goals set by others. When the bad objectives are being implemented by the intelligent men, the effect is much worse than when the dumb ones are carrying them out. The policy of fascism was as destructive for humanity precisely because it was implemented by the solid experts.
Q: At which side would SPS profit more, with the DS or with the patriotic bloc?
MM: By its very nature and programme, the SPS may never follow the bigger profit. But if the character determines the destiny of man, nation and party alike, the SPS can serve its purpose only in the alliance with the patriotic bloc.
Letter to Dacic by SPS Founders
Q: Is it true that you sent a letter to Dacic, together with the group of SPS founders?
MM: The letter exists and it was sent to Dacic some ten days ago. I did not write it, but I did sign it, because it was very well documented.
Q: What were the requests?
MM: The letter lists important arguments against joining the coalition around DS. We did not pose any questions in the letter, so we didn't receive a response. But the further discussion about this letter was prevented within the party's bodies. This speaks about their negative stand in regards to the letter, because of the criticism.
'Socialist International' Scam, Another Globalism Tool
Q: So, what's with the Socialist International [to which SPS was offered membership if it "makes a clean break with the past" and forms the government with Yellows]?
MM: The SI is today a tool of the world globalism. It has definitely betrayed the socialist idea. It is mostly the US hirelings that are occupying the Socialist International.
Q: Then why are most of the social-democratic parties eager to become its members?
MM: The same thing that applies to the SI, applies to them. Even Solana is a "socialdemocrat"! All of those are the ones who are serving the US interests, while calling themselves the "socialdemocrats".

Why can’t SPS members convene an urgent assembly and remove Dacic from his position?
On a related point, in Serbia political parties that get more than 5% of the vote are not only guaranteed seats in Parliament, they also granted state funding for their operations. This means that the SPS does not have to raise money for its survival from its members.
In Britain there is no state funding for political parties. Political parties have to raise money from their members and from rich supporters. While there have been a few scandals about rich people buying influence, generally speaking the British system works well. Party leaders have to travel around the country meeting their members to encourage them to raise more money for the next election. This does not happen in Serbia. Dacic couldn’t care less about his party’s members let alone the wider general public. He must be removed from his position without delay.
