Serbs Congratulate Russia

On Tuesday, at the 22nd protest against the arrest of first President of Republic of Srpska Dr Radovan Karadzic, after gathering at the main city square in Belgrade, protesters went in front of Russian Embassy to congratulate the representatives of Russian Federation on "successfully restoring peace and the victory of Russian peace-keeping forces in South Ossetia".

Carrying banners which read "Won't Give Ossetia Away", "End the Tyranny", "Radovan Karadzic" and singing Russian songs, they handed Serbian and Russian flags to the administrative service of the Russian Embassy.

According to the leader of the 1389 Movement Rade Ljubicic, the delegation of protesters was received by the head of the embassy's political department Yurii Pilipson, who thanked them on solidarity and support for the Russian people in South Ossetia.

The 22nd protest against the arrest of Dr. Karadzic was, like all the earlier ones, attended by President Karadzic's brother Luka and nephew Dragan Karadzic, as well as Serbian Radical Party functionary, General Bozidar Delic.

International Court of Justice to Decide on (IL)Legality of Western Seizure of Kosovo-Metohija Province

In other news, Serbia had confirmed it will officially request the U.N. General Assembly to ask the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for legal opinion on Pristina separatists' unilateral declaration of independence in Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija -- despite the staunch protests by the West and urgings to Serbia not to proceed with this request.

One wonders why are the EU and U.S. leaders nervous over the ICJ getting involved, if they are so sure of their "moral high ground" and so certain they had the right to sever part of Serbia's ancient territory and gift it to Albanians.

Huffington Post (which I usually don't read) has a very thoughtful article about the situation here:

I think you'll like it.

Thank you, Henrik, it was already on our 'recommended' list -- exceptional article.

Frank Schaeffer is a famous convert to Eastern Orthodoxy, an incredibly interesting, talented, humorous and exceedingly well educated man, a filmmaker, author, director and public speaker, who had written few books about his 'journey' to Church. He also speaks about Orthodoxy, offering fresh, funny and oftentimes hilarious insights - we recommend Schaeffer's lectures wholeheartedly, in addition to his novels and non-fiction books. (Frank Schaeffer's publishing house and web site are also highly recommended as a good starting place to get to know this truly remarkable American)

Oh :)

I have the Trifkovic books already, and happened to read the closing chapters of "Defeating Jihad" in a street café in central Belgrade. It touched me to tears.

Will pick up more books at a later opportunity.

Here's an analysis from sane (that is, non-government) Americans:

Basically it's the wrong place to start wars, for we have real challenges, and (not least) real enemies to defeat.

I'm not sure if I agree with Serbs supporting Russia in this case.

SIOE supports Serbia's claim on Kosovo and we oppose the unilateral declaration of independence by Albanian muslims in Kosovo.

How could we then support Russia's intervention in Georgia? We consider the West's stance on Kosovo and South Ossetia to be hypocritical. In fact the EU's, USA's and NATO's ignoring of Russia's opposition to Kosovo breaking away from Serbia gave Putin the excuse to move against Georgia.

In my view Serbs would do better to point out the West's hypocrisy than supporting a Russian invasion.

Stephen, it is only the neocons and the Western corporate media, deliberately lying and distorting facts, that wants everyone to believe Russians "invaded Georgia". There was Georgian invasion on South Ossetia, not Russian invasion on Georgia. Serbs support Russian legitimate right (and legal right, through the agreements signed with Georgian leadership) to protect their own people in South Ossetia from the slaughter. Serbs support Russia not standing by while her own people, her peacekeepers and civilians are being massacred for the piece of land on which they stand.

As Paul Craig Roberts said (Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration): "If Russia wished, Russia could terminate Georgia’s existence as a separate country at will, and there is nothing the US could do about it.

"It is certain that the Georgian invasion of South Ossetia was a Bush Regime orchestrated event. The American media and the neocon think tanks were ready with their propaganda blitzes. Neocons had ready a Wall Street Journal editorial page article for Saakashvili that declares “the war in Georgia is a war for the West.”

"Faced with the collapse of his army when Russia sent in troops to protect South Ossetians from the Georgian troops, Saakashvili declared: “This is not about Georgia any more. It is about America, its values.”

"The neocon Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., quickly called a conference hosted by warmonger Ariel Cohen, “Urgent! Event: Russian-Georgian War: A Challenge for the U.S. and the World.”

"The Washington Post hosted neocon Robert Kagen’s war drums, “Putin Makes His Move.”

"Only a fool like Kagen could think that if Putin intended to invade Georgia he would do so from Beijing, or that after sending the American-trained Georgian army in flight, he would not continue and conquer all of Georgia in order to put an end to American machinations on Russia’s most sensitive border, machinations that are likely to eventually end in nuclear war [...]"

Just look at the hand that wielded this weapon, and you'll find the exact same enemy behind and the same hand that ripped Kosovo out of Serbia's chest, that brought mujahedins to Bosnia and Serbia and had done all else.

Thank you for your support!
