Milorad Cavic, a True Olympian

Finish of the 100 m butterfly race between Cavic and Phelps. Many argue Cavic had touched the sensor pad first.
Difference Between the Olympic Gold and Silver: One-Hundredth of a Second
Remember this guy? Milorad Cavic broke the European 50 meter butterfly record twice in two days, won the gold medal in Eindhoven this March and then got booted out of further competition by the Dutch organizer, allegedly because he wore "Kosovo is Serbia" t-shirt to a winners podium, but more likely because the Serb was about to sweep the gold medals in 100 meters butterfly and 100 meters freestyle too. And that might be a bit too much to let a Serb get.

On Saturday, Cavic raced 100 meter butterfly for the Olympic gold with Michael Phelps, celebrated in United States as the greatest swimmer of all times, even before he repeated Mark Spitz's sensational coup of winning 7 gold medals in one Olympic games. At first, everyone, including Phelps himself, thought Milorad Cavic won. But the official results announced Phelps had won instead, and by the smallest possible margin, by one-hundredth of a second (50.58-50.59).
Convinced that Cavic had reached the finish line first, Serbia's Olympic committee and swimming team staff filed an official protest, despite Cavic's magnanimity and generosity, wishing to drop the whole thing and enjoy the Silver Olympic medal he was given. Serbian complaint was rejected, but a number of people out there are certain it was the Serb, not the American who won the 100m butterfly at Beijing Olympics.

The controversy -- likely to haunt this Olympic swimming championship for years, regardless of the American anger -- has been additionally fueled by the fact the international swimming federation (FINA) refused to release the official images of the finish of the race which they claim Phelps won.
Cavic's Spirit Outshines All Gold
Meanwhile, Serbian hero's Olympian spirit and graciousness haven't gone unnoticed.
“I am taking what I got and I’m happy,” said Cavic, who had retired once and come back. He added that if they raced again, “I would win it,” but they will not meet again, not this month in Beijing. Just as well for Cavic, his image is set for life", George Vecsey wrote, explaining:
"He was no sore loser, no Triple-A chump snarling his way out of the ballpark, like the American baseball players after their loss to South Korea, or their manager, Davey Johnson, who blamed Cuba after an apparent accident injured one of his players. Cavic was an Olympian."
Congratulations to all the Olympic medalists and especially to those with a spirit outshining all the gold in the world. Congratulations, Milorad!

On the first sight it looked like Cavic had won , indeed. When I saw Cavic 2 , Phelps 1 on the screen, I was rubbing my eyes in disbelief. However it looks like FINA offical watched the replay which they slowed to one-ten thousandth of a second.However if the fireworks were faked , if the girl who was " singing" was only opening her mouth everything is possible at these Olympics...
What upset me most is this ( written in the Associated press before the final race)
Phelps was second fastest behind Milorad Cavic of Croatia in the 100 fly...
First Djokovic, than Vidic and now Cavic....
Everyone who is successful and has ic in his surname is Croat in the Western press.While on the other side anyone who is accused of a crime ( especially war crime) is unmistakably- Serb.
Unintentional? Do not think so.

I don't think the multi milion Phelps sponsors could afford for Phelps to lose. A lot of money was bet on him to win the 8th medals, and they couldn't let some Serb overthere, mess up their financial overexposure.
Phelps was slower all the way though the race, but then in the last second, he managed to overtake Cavic by 1/100th of a second. Right.
Had there not have been such high financial stakes on Phelps since before the match, Cavic losing by a 1/100th second could actually be more beliavable...
Anyway, American newspapers and others are prasing Cavic for, as New York Times puts it ''saving'' Phelps and the swimming team from contraversy.
And I believe that apart from Chavic being the true sportsman, he also knows in his heart that he is a better swimmer. I hope he knows that he won, as majority of people already do.
Cavic could not be better ambasador for Serbia - he has shown such sporsmaship, such grace, such humbleness that he, just like Ana Ivanovic, Novak Djokovic and other Serbian sports personalities simply cannot be disliked in the face of such worldwide Serbophobia.
Cavic, you are a true Champion.

Cavic is classier than that. I think he threw that race to Michael Phelps. Why else would he coast in and raise his head to slow down at the finish? He obviously swims because he loves it and the medals don't mean everything.

Why would Milorad "throw" the race to anyone? He was there to compete for himself, his country, his flag, etc. If the electronic timer was accurate and the measurement honest, so be it: Phelps won fairly. On the other hand, if the timer was rigged in favor of Phelps and the claim that the touch sensor overrides the camera (as told to Cavic's trainer upon his protest)is false, then it is a different story and the entire integrity of the Games is in question, regardless of how many drug screening is done. Why waste one's time and resources to participate in a rigged game? What value is there for an athlete "showing one's flag" at the starting ceremony only to be disqualified by the biased judges? The only value I can see for going through rigorous and dishonest competition is to gain free marketing exposure for the winning participants; they can be hired by foreign teams or advertising firms for good sums of money.

I have read this interesting thing about Cavic case:
1)1) FINA rules specifically state in the butterfly swim that both arms must touch the wall for the clock to stop, and it is evident on you tube video that Phelps did not do that.

yes, Cavke won this one! I'm sorry, I know he wants us to leave it alone and move on, but the truth of the matter is that he, not Phelps, won the 100m butterfly at Beijing Olympics.
Someone got the perfect little site put together laying it all out in plain view: Cavke won!

From the very first second after I saw that finish, I have always thought and said that Milorad Cavic has won the gold medal!
Nothing and nobody can ever change my mind.
I have also seen many replays.
Who knows? Maybe Eurosport (here in Western Europe, it broadcasts almost everything over a full day from China) even distorted some or all of the replays shown on their own channel after the very first.
The very first replay they put on clearly showed that Milorad touched first. And this wonderful photo on this wonderful blog is the very best example I have seen anywhere. It is perfect and can't be contradicted.
He won! Given what happened in May in Holland at the European Championship, no surprise. I also got sadly used to seeing great Serbs in sport being dubbed as "Croats". How pathetic, it shows how dumb and ignorant journalists (and of course politicians) are in the West.
I couldn't belief the TV screen right after the finish, it was beyond belief, I agree. I'm still so angry. I mean, Milorad Cavic got fooled twice in three months by the very same bunch of racist Westerners. Of course "good must be Croat, criminal must be Serb" has never been an intentional story made up in the West. Never been so since 1990.
Mila is absolutely right. The whole Western world with all that fake money (from the banks, not the corporations themselve, they are all broke) couldn't lose any money. So Phelps had to win, somehow, anyhow. And remember that all that money that banks printed out of thin air and gave to the West's corporations to prop up Phelps simply has one effect on us: inflation!!! So we always get robbed more than once, when we watch the TV and Milorad loses but also when we go out and try to make ends meet. All because of these criminals who control the entire world economy in developed and in developing countries.
I also agree with Bud: it's crazy to think that Mr. Cavic would lose on purpose! On the other hand, it's clear that the TV cameras showed the right thing, just look at this photo here on the blog but the touch sensor were likely rigged in favour of Phelps.
I mean, I can't think of any alternative since in swimming you can't win your own "candidate" in any other way. The pro-Phelps money idiots just got very lucky because he got back in the race and then at the last breath, they were very lucky because they were still able to use their well-prepared trick. Otherwise it would all have been useless, with a bit more of an advantage, had Milorad been able to keep it!
The last point made by Ben is also extremely interesting. I just hope to have time to write a very nasty letter of protest to FINA before I get back to work regularly in a week. I should have done it in May after the farce in Holland but could not find the time. The photo is simply beautiful. Great job, as always.
Best wishes to all.

"For example, the Chinese officials did not make the recording available until hours after the race providing an ample time to manipulate the images. Eyewitnesses have reported unusual activity in the section of the TV studio used by Abigophoto immediately after the race. Abigophoto is the American contractor who supplies and maintains high speed finish video equipment for sporting events."

What's the problem with the f****ng Dutch? They claim to be civilized as if by "civilized" they only mean that they can smoke their marijuana openly, but deep down they are really fascists at heart.
Specifically:
1. As UN "peacekeepers" during the Yugoslav civil wars they allowed the Bosnian Muslim forces in the Srebrenica "safe haven" to keep their weapons, leave the city at will, terrorize, torture and slaughter local Serbs and return safely to Srebrenica, without doing anything about it. No protest to their UN higher ups regarding the Muslim activities; no report to the world media of the Muslim’s atrocities over the Serbian civilians and captured soldiers; no attempt to disarm the Muslim fighters while under their "protection. Nothing. Not a word. Not a whisper.
2. They get pissed because one of their "Christian" politicians is butchered by a fanatical Muslim, so they develop a "hard on" against the Serbs. They pick a real dickhead of a jurist to preside over the trial of Radovan Karadzic, a Serb who tried to defend the Serbs when the UN “peacekeepers” failed completely to do their job in defending them.
3. Their UN "peacekeepers" would not even respect the Serbian Orthodox holy sisters in their jurisdiction of Bosnia, so they harassed or abused them whenever they saw one, all because their robes were unlike the robes of their Protestant or Catholic nuns.
4. They have degenerated to a bunch of loutish morons, devoid of any sense of fair play and sportsmanship to the extent that they cannot even tolerate a Serbian swimmer winning, but need to fabricate instead a flimsy excuse to boot him out of competition because of a patriotic slogan on his shirt.
My prayer:
"May their Dutch cities populate increasingly with Muslim jihadists;
May their street fill with swarm of black burkes;
May their increasingly empty "Christian" churches be converted to mosques;
May their Amsterdam air be filled with cries of muezzins calling the faithful to prayer;
May their streets, parks and public offices permeate with the aroma of roasted lambs, curry, tobacco, hash-hish and goats’ dung;
May their “Christian” daughters become pregnant from their Muslim boyfriends.
All this and more, because over these several years they have showed themselves to be a stupid, intolerant, unethical, hypocritical, hateful and un-Christian bunch of assholes."
Amen.

Bud, amen. However, as far as being anti-Serb, I would say the same about all Western countries. Especially about the one where I was born and I live, Italy. The local idiots feel a link to Albania almost as if it was still a colony (Italy is a useless country so to feel important, it loves to enjoy special ties with places like Libya and Albania) and so whatever happens between Serbs and Albanians, they always take the same side. With very few noble exceptions. Croatia enjoys the same reputations. Slovenia is a bordering "nation" so it's always more important than, let's say, Serbia.
The quantity and quality of the proofs that Phelps won by conspiracy are indeed stunning and undeniable. I'm especially stunned by the number of Western media that wrote that they thought Milorad won. Ah, the hard truth!

Great blog site. Cavic won. Phelps won Silver. But we all know corporate America has tons of paperwork power to maintain Phelps' bogus-Gold.
Cavic won, plain and simple.
